Abstract

The present paper proposes a numerical simulation approach to the heat transfer phenomenon that occurs in small calibre gun barrels, with the process being studied during the firing of the 7.62mm model 1963 submachine gun. In the proposed methodology, unlike most studies in the field, heat transfer is not treated separately but is integrated into the study of the interior ballistics of the weapon system, as it occurs in reality. An equivalent virtual model of the tube and ammunition used was constructed, which is 2D axial-symmetric, since the analyzed geometry and phenomenon permit it. For the numerical simulation, the FLUENT software was used, whose capabilities allow for the modelling of interior ballistics phenomena.
